Library Go See It, Wildlife Conservation, Great Den Meeting:
I want to congratulate the Cubs of Tiger Den 12, they have done a great job so far this year. We have earned a number of belt loops, Geology, Collections, Map & Compass, and now they have recieved their Communicating belt loop. In addition they only have a few more requirements for their Tiger Badge. We will need to find some go See Its to satisfy a few of these and there are a couple family requirements.
Library: We had a wonderful trip to the Solano Public Library. Where Nancy the Librarian selected some interesting books and read two of them to the boys. She knew that we were working on our Wildlife Conservation Belt loop and wanted to help the boys learn about Endangered Species. We were then shown the Fiction and Non-Fiction areas of the Library, including the area where books about animals could be found. The cubs learned a little about how the books are organized and where to go and who to ask if they need help finding something. Joseph got his own library card and Ben went back the next day and got his - Congratulations.
Wildlife Conservation: The den has been working on our Wildlife conservation belt loop, Last month we visited the Suisun Animal Rescue center - which was a wonderful experience. We created food chain posters - Gunnar even created a wonderful ocean food chain poster - beautiful job. And as a mission from last den meeting the cubs each selected an endangered animal and at our den meeting last night, they each individually told the rest of the den about their animal. So they had experience researching the animal, and reporting back to the den.
Our Den meeting last night was another wonderful meeting - with such a great den of cubs how can they be anything but great meetings. We started with a game of Dodge bottle (no we did not throw bottles at each other) - The boys each had a bottle that represented them (their name on it), if that bottle got knocked over they were out. Each team had the bottles for their team mates and some extra blank bottles. If a team got down to just one standing bottle then the other team wins (makes the boys have to protect their bottle and at least one other. Soccer balls were thrown / rolled to knock down the bottles. Everyone had fun. We needed a few more balls and the parents may have gotten even more excersize then the boys (retrieving the balls and throwing them back into the game). After the game we had our flag ceremony. and then the boys each talked about the endangered species they picked. We then moved to painting the covers for their scrap books (the next time we work on the scrap books, the boys will decorate their covers using the stamps they made and begin working on their first scrap book page - I am a Tiger Cub, followed by the second page - This is my Family. So each cub will select a den picture (from my pictures or their own) for the first page and they need a family picture to go on the second page. This was followed by snack, then we sang Your a grand old Flag, followed by awarding the cubs with their Leave No Trace badge (this is referred to as a temporary badge and is worn on the right pocket - this area on their uniform is used to display which ever of the temporary badges that the cub wants to display at the time (it can change)) it can also be worn on a scout vest. The boys also recieved their Communications belt loop. This was followed by moans when I told them it was time to clean-up (they were having too much fun) but after a couple tiger roars we ended the meeting. The boys were given a new mission to pick a night this week where at dinner each member of the family tells something that happened to them during the day. I will be asking them if they did this and how it went at the next den meeting.
Remember: Meet at 9:30 this saturday at my house to collect the food for the Scouting for Food drive. Also, remember if you have an item to purchase for the gift for Christmas Wish 2009 that we need these unwrapped items at the pack meeting on the 16th.
