Den Meeting 9/1/2009

Tiger Den 12 met last night, Sept 1 2009.  Tiger Cubs Ben, J.P., Gunnar, Garrett, and Daniel all came prepared for the meeting in their uniform.  We started learning a little about the value of pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters.  This is going to take a little more work, before they are ready to make change.   We will try this again in a few months and see if their math and attention skills improve.   We then Opened our meeting with a pledge of allegiance.  Each cub then demonstrated to me that they all knew their scout sign, salute, handshake and motto.  Each Cub was called forward to recieve his immediate recognition emblem followed by a recognition that they had each completed 5g - take a hike, 2f - Look at a map of your community, and 2d - Pledge of Allegiance earning them each one black, one white and one orange bead.

I need to find out if there is a trick to making sure the laces stay on the emblems or I think we will be replacing alot of beads and laces.

We played a quick game of "Tell it like it isn't"  by the time my first message of "there are five trees" got relayed through the 5 cubs, the message was something unintelligable.   The second message "It is time to grab the blanket and snacks and go up the hill"  was relayed and ended up to be the first message - "there are 5 trees" .   Next meeting the cubs will recieve an orange bead for completing 4D, and elective 35 (we have done something for this elective at each meeting).

We then grabed the blanket, snacks and waters along with a garbage bag and headed up the hill.  Several scouts are convinced that we saw a lion on the hill and some can relay the sound it made while walking.   When we all survived the hike up singing - If your a tiger and you know it, we had a picnic and observed the weather.    Earning the Tiger cubs a white bead for Observing the weather.  In addtions their books should be marked to identify that they completed electives 6, and 22.  we all safely made it back down the hill.  Thank you Mr Vito and Mr. Epperson for helping the cubs to safely climb down the slope and build their self confidence. 

The Den confirmed that we will go to the Rock Shop on the weekend of Sept 12 - 13th (unless there is a conflict at the Rock Shop, we will meet at the Rock Shop at 2:00 on Sunday - I will confirm via email after contacting the shop).  

The Next Den meeting will be Sept 15th. 

Before that meeting all the cubs with thier parents are to discuss their fire drill plan.  At next meeting we will discuss with the den.   If possible do a fire drill with your family (completeing 3f part a).  Note: if you get your cub to help you in changing the batteries in your smoke detectors, this will complete elective 28.  

Please start collecting family pictures that the cub can use in making their family scrap book.  These should be pictures that the cub can cut up, color on etc. Bring the pictures to our next meeting.

Does anyone have a connection to get us a square of blue material (can be felt, sheet, etc).  We want to make a den flag at one of the next meetings.  Let me know if you have something or can get it.
