Just for clarification - Class B Uniform means the Pack t-shirt which can usually be purchased at the pack meetings. so for this event either the Pack t-shirt or full uniform.

Howdy
Due to a scheduling conflict, I need to move Rocket Day from 11/7 to 10/31.
ATTIRE - Class B Uniform (or better).
Participants are asked to bring along any folding tables or popup canopies they'd be willing to provide.
"A" and "B" engines (along with igniters and wadding) will be available for $2 each, or 2 for $3.
"C" engines (along with igniters and wadding) will be available for $2 each.
I will have an E2X (easy to assemble) rocket available for purchase ($7 each) at the 10/27/09 Pack Meeting. Purchase includes one engine. Anyone who'd like to get a jump on this prior to launch day contact me ASAP.
I will have a RTF (ready to fly) rocket available for purchase ($7 each) at the launch site. Purchase includes one engine.

Tiger Den 12 "Go See It" - Suisun Wildlife Rescue

I have spoken with the Suisun Wildlife Rescue center and tentatively secured Saturday afternoon Oct 10th or Oct 24th for an afternoon of fun seeing all the animals at the rescue center including the Golden Eagle.  http://www.suisunwildlife.org/wildmain.html.   We would meet at the center at ~1:30 or 2:00.  The center would show us the rescue animals and if we are lucky maybe even get to see the Golden Eagle have it's lunch.  

There are picnic tables where we could have a snack and if we want to, we could take a short hike.  The Center charges $50 for the group tour.  Perhaps we could do $4/ person (we usually have 6 cubs and 6 or more adults). 

Please let me know if you like this idea, and if Saturday afternoon will work for you.  Also, do you have a preference for Oct 10th or 24th?  Please send me an email or let me know at the pack meeting tonight.

Pack Meeting Tuesday Night

Reminder:  Pack Meeting - 6:30 - 8:30  at Browns Valley School (Tuesday 9/29/2009) - (yes I double checked the calendar it is at Browns valley). 

 

If all goes as planned Gunnar, Daniel, and J.P. will be presented with the Bobcat badge they have earned.  There is a Cub Scout Roundup from 5:30 - 6:30 and new boys interested in joining scouts will be encouraged to stay for our pack meeting, so you may have the oportunity to talk to some new boys and their parents about the scouting experience.  Also, if you know someone interested, this is the place.  

 

If you have not paid the full year fee for your cub scout, it will be due at the pack meeting - so bring your checkbook.  I believe it is $75 / yr. 

 

October - We will not have a Den Meeting on the 6th ( I will be out of town).  I am working on a schedule for a "Go See It" on one of the Saturday or Sunday's in October.  Will let you know as soon as I have a set of possible dates.  We will plan to meet on the 13th and the 20th, most likely in the school (Brown's Valley).

 

Hope to see everyone at the Pack meeting tomorrow evening - please give me a heads up, if you are not going to make it.

Tiger Den 12

Den Meeting - Sept 15

Another great den meeting.  The cubs brought their rocks that they collected (some of them purchased at the rock shop during our Go See It).  They mounted them to a display board, titled the collection and labeled the rocks, drew pictures of how the rocks formed, etc (volcanoes were popular topics).   J.P. was not able to join us at the rock shop, so he made a collection from postage stamps and did a wonderful job.  All of the collections looked great.

The Cubs completed the requirements for the Collections Belt Loop.

Joseph recieved his immediate recognition emblem and all of the cubs recieved more beads for their progress toward their Tiger Cub Badge.

The Duggans helped the cubs make a snack (satisfying elective 25 -  make a snack and share it with your family or den).  They each were able to make their own trail mix, using cereal, peanuts, almonds, raisins, m&ms, etc.   Good stuff.

Next the cubs started work on  their Den flag.  Fun and messy - Thank you Mr. Epperson, Mr. Madsen, and Mr. Vito.

This Saturday Sept 19th we will be helping with the Coastal Clean-up which will satisfy the Leave No Trace project requirement, as well as being a great thing to do for the community.  The Cubs should meet at Centenial Park - the clean up goes from 9 - 12 so come when you can.

Next meeting - Sept 22  - we will be working on the Leave no Trace poster, and we will do leaf rubbings (be sure and bring leaves from your yard).  

And once again I did not take any pictures - I am really slacking.   If any one did take pictures, please post them.  Tiger Den 12.

Go See It Rock Shop - A Success

Tiger Den 12 had a great time at the Rock shop.   They loved the fossils, huge variety of rocks and minerals as well as the different displays.  The cubs saw Igneous rocks formed from Valcanoes, Sedimentary rock formed in layers, i.e. sandstone, and metamorphic rock like the California state rock Serpentine.   We discussed the difference between rocks and minerals.  We also discussed how fossils formed.  and at the end of the visit, we had cookies and juice or milk, thanks to the Duggans.  

The cubs learned everything they needed to earn their geology belt loop and saw a wonderful collection of rocks, which gave them one of the requirements for their collection belt loop.   And the Den Leader neglected to take any pictures -  What was he thinking.  If any of the Moms or Dads took any pictures, please send them to me or post them on the Den 12 photo Album. 

The Rock Shop

I confirmed with the Rock Shop that they are open on Sunday Sept 13th for their normal hours. 

Per our discussion at our last Den Meeting, we will be meeting at the Rock Shop at 2:00 pm on Sunday the 13th - wear your Uniforms.

Creek Cleanup Sept 19 Centennial Park, Vacaville

I have coordinated with Doug DeFabio who is organizing the Creek Cleanup Sept 19th.   The staff at the Centenial Park site for the cleanup (the city of vacaville is running the cleanup for several different sites) is expecting our den members to show up here.  The event runs from 9 - 12.  Whenever, during that time, that you can come help out, please do.  Please make sure and let the staff know that you are there representing Den 12 with Cub Scout Pack 180.  Ben and I will be there, I just have not figured out exactly when, as he and his brother have soccer practice at different times saturday morning.  

Please find a waiver for the parents to sign allowing the cubs to participate - (waiver - Click Here).  If you can have this filled out ahead of time and hand it to the staff organizing the event, this will save time.

If you could send me a note to let me know you plan to be there, we can start coordinating.  It is always more fun for the cubs to work together.

Den Meeting 9/1/2009

Tiger Den 12 met last night, Sept 1 2009.  Tiger Cubs Ben, J.P., Gunnar, Garrett, and Daniel all came prepared for the meeting in their uniform.  We started learning a little about the value of pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters.  This is going to take a little more work, before they are ready to make change.   We will try this again in a few months and see if their math and attention skills improve.   We then Opened our meeting with a pledge of allegiance.  Each cub then demonstrated to me that they all knew their scout sign, salute, handshake and motto.  Each Cub was called forward to recieve his immediate recognition emblem followed by a recognition that they had each completed 5g - take a hike, 2f - Look at a map of your community, and 2d - Pledge of Allegiance earning them each one black, one white and one orange bead.

I need to find out if there is a trick to making sure the laces stay on the emblems or I think we will be replacing alot of beads and laces.

We played a quick game of "Tell it like it isn't"  by the time my first message of "there are five trees" got relayed through the 5 cubs, the message was something unintelligable.   The second message "It is time to grab the blanket and snacks and go up the hill"  was relayed and ended up to be the first message - "there are 5 trees" .   Next meeting the cubs will recieve an orange bead for completing 4D, and elective 35 (we have done something for this elective at each meeting).

We then grabed the blanket, snacks and waters along with a garbage bag and headed up the hill.  Several scouts are convinced that we saw a lion on the hill and some can relay the sound it made while walking.   When we all survived the hike up singing - If your a tiger and you know it, we had a picnic and observed the weather.    Earning the Tiger cubs a white bead for Observing the weather.  In addtions their books should be marked to identify that they completed electives 6, and 22.  we all safely made it back down the hill.  Thank you Mr Vito and Mr. Epperson for helping the cubs to safely climb down the slope and build their self confidence. 

The Den confirmed that we will go to the Rock Shop on the weekend of Sept 12 - 13th (unless there is a conflict at the Rock Shop, we will meet at the Rock Shop at 2:00 on Sunday - I will confirm via email after contacting the shop).  

The Next Den meeting will be Sept 15th. 

Before that meeting all the cubs with thier parents are to discuss their fire drill plan.  At next meeting we will discuss with the den.   If possible do a fire drill with your family (completeing 3f part a).  Note: if you get your cub to help you in changing the batteries in your smoke detectors, this will complete elective 28.  

Please start collecting family pictures that the cub can use in making their family scrap book.  These should be pictures that the cub can cut up, color on etc. Bring the pictures to our next meeting.

Does anyone have a connection to get us a square of blue material (can be felt, sheet, etc).  We want to make a den flag at one of the next meetings.  Let me know if you have something or can get it.
